The two temples of this complex were built in the 13th century B.C during the reign of king Ramses 2nd.The temple has 6 Colossal statues on its facade {4 showing the powerful king Ramses the 2nd & 2 showing queen Nefertari}.
It consists of 2 huge temples {The Great temple & the small temple} both were carved into the mountain side.
In present times yearly at 21st of February and 22nd of October, the sun’s rays would find its way directly into the inner sanctuary. These two dates are traditionally thought to correspond with the birthday & the coronation day of the pharaoh.
